Georgia's precast concrete drainage work on state projects is governed by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The requirements for drainage structures, reinforced concrete pipe, box culverts, and the concrete itself live in the Standard Specifications Construction of Transportation Systems, with details carried on the state's standard drawings. Precast producers read those documents alongside the project plan set to know what to make and how it will be accepted.
On GDOT construction plans, drainage work is tabulated on plan sheets organized around the project pay items. Each drainage structure type and pipe class carries its own pay item, for example per each for catch basins, drop inlets, junction boxes, and manholes, and per linear foot for pipe. The tabulation ties field quantities to the corresponding specification sections for measurement and payment.
Standard Specifications Construction of Transportation Systems, 2021 (with 2024 Supplemental Specifications). The sections below cover precast drainage structures, pipe, culverts, and concrete.
| Section | Title |
|---|---|
| 500 | Concrete Structures |
| 513 | Precast Reinforced Concrete Box Culverts, Barrel Sections, and End Sections |
| 550 | Storm Drain Pipe, Pipe-Arch Culverts, and Side Drain Pipe |
| 668 | Miscellaneous Drainage Structures |
| 843 | Concrete Pipe |
| 866 | Precast Concrete Catch Basin, Drop Inlet, and Manhole Units |
| 960 | Precast Reinforced Concrete Three Sided Culvert |
Section numbers are a reference. Confirm them against the current specification and any special provisions for your project.
GDOT publishes Construction Standards and Details as a document library. Drainage structure, pipe, culvert, and headwall details are distributed across the standard sheets in that library, keyed to the measurement and payment sections of the specifications.
QPL-4 lists approved producers of concrete pipe, box culvert, precast manhole units, and miscellaneous precast. It is maintained by the Office of Materials and Testing and points to the matching material specification sections. The listing was revised June 30, 2026.
Plant certification: GDOT Office of Materials and Testing plant inspection and certification under SOP-19. State in-house (GDOT Office of Materials and Testing, Inspection Services Branch); products are pre-inspected and stamped with a certification number.

A GDOT parser profile is on deck for DhyanaERP.
DhyanaERP Drainage Summary Import reads a plan set, finds the drainage structure sheets, transcribes them under a strict extraction contract, checks the engineering, and turns each row a person confirms into a priced structure. This status describes DhyanaERP's reading capability only. It is not a statement of DOT approval.
See DhyanaERP Precast EditionConstruction falls under Section 668 (Miscellaneous Drainage Structures) of the 2021 Standard Specifications, with precast unit material requirements in Section 866 (Precast Concrete Catch Basin, Drop Inlet, and Manhole Units).
Reinforced concrete pipe installation is in Section 550 (Storm Drain Pipe, Pipe-Arch Culverts, and Side Drain Pipe) with pipe material in Section 843 (Concrete Pipe). Precast box culverts are covered in Section 513, and precast three-sided structures in Section 960.
Yes. Concrete pipe and precast products must come from a producer listed on QPL-4 and be pre-inspected and stamped with a certification number under the Office of Materials and Testing program described in SOP-19. Unstamped products or products from unlisted producers are not used without prior engineer approval.
Construction Standards and Details are published in GDOT's document library. Advertised projects, letting schedules, and online plans are reached through the GDOT Contractor Resources page and the electronic bidding system.
