New York's precast concrete drainage work on state projects is governed by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). The requirements for drainage structures, reinforced concrete pipe, box culverts, and the concrete itself live in the Standard Specifications, Construction and Materials, with details carried on the state's standard drawings. Precast producers read those documents alongside the project plan set to know what to make and how it will be accepted.
NYSDOT plans tabulate storm drainage work in a Drainage Structure Table that is unusually detailed. Each structure row records the structure type, frame and grate, rim and flowline elevations, and directional inverts keyed by compass bearing (north, east, south, west), so the inlet and outlet pipe for every leg is captured in one row. That directional invert layout makes pipe connectivity between catch basins, manholes, and junction boxes traceable straight from the table.
Standard Specifications, Construction and Materials, Issued and updated by volume; the Section 600 volume is dated January 1, 2025. The sections below cover precast drainage structures, pipe, culverts, and concrete.
| Section | Title |
|---|---|
| 603 | Culverts and Storm Drains |
| 604 | Drainage Structures |
| 706-02 | Reinforced Concrete Pipe |
| 706-03 | Reinforced Concrete Elliptical Pipe |
| 706-04 | Precast Concrete Drainage Units |
| 706-07 | Reinforced Concrete End Sections |
Section numbers are a reference. Confirm them against the current specification and any special provisions for your project.
The 604 Drainage Structures series carries the precast storm drainage sheets, including the precast concrete transverse drainage interceptor and a multi-sheet drainage structure detail set covering rectangular and round structures with and without top slabs. Precast box and three-sided culvert geometry is carried on the Bridge Detail sheets rather than the 604 roadway series.
The Approved List carries a Precast Concrete category. Precast concrete drainage units fall under material designation 706-04 and tie to the roster titled Precast Concrete Manufacturers Approved for QC/QA Production, governed by Materials Procedure 09-02.
Plant certification: Precast Concrete Manufacturers Approved for QC/QA Production (Materials Procedure 09-02). State in-house (NYSDOT Materials Bureau QC/QA program under Materials Procedure 09-02).

DhyanaERP reads NYSDOT drainage summaries today.
DhyanaERP Drainage Summary Import reads a plan set, finds the drainage structure sheets, transcribes them under a strict extraction contract, checks the engineering, and turns each row a person confirms into a priced structure. This status describes DhyanaERP's reading capability only. It is not a statement of DOT approval.
See DhyanaERP Precast EditionSection 604 covers construction of drainage structures, manholes, and leaching basins, and material and fabrication requirements for precast units are set in material designation 706-04, Precast Concrete Drainage Units.
Yes. The specification lets the contractor build either cast-in-place or precast drainage structures unless the contract documents direct otherwise, with precast units meeting the 706-04 requirements and built to the standard sheets or plans.
The plant must appear on the roster titled Precast Concrete Manufacturers Approved for QC/QA Production, which the Materials Bureau administers in-house under Materials Procedure 09-02.
On the Standard Sheets site under the 604 Drainage Structures series, which includes the precast transverse drainage interceptor sheet and the multi-sheet drainage structure detail set.
