North Carolina's precast concrete drainage work on state projects is governed by the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT). The requirements for drainage structures, reinforced concrete pipe, box culverts, and the concrete itself live in the Standard Specifications for Roads and Structures, with details carried on the state's standard drawings. Precast producers read those documents alongside the project plan set to know what to make and how it will be accepted.
On NCDOT roadway plan sets, pipe and drainage structure quantities are tabulated on drainage summary sheets in the 3D sheet series. These tabulations list each structure and pipe run with its station or location, the structure type keyed to the 840 and 838 standard drawings, pipe size and class, and quantities. For the exact structures and bid quantities on a given project, the project plan set and proposal in Central Letting are the controlling source.

The 2024 Roadway Standard Drawings carry the drainage details. The 840 series covers minor drainage structures, including the concrete base pad, catch basins, drop inlets, junction boxes, precast drainage structures, traffic-bearing precast drainage structures, and manholes. The 838 series covers endwalls, and the 310 series covers precast concrete pipe end sections.
The Approved Products List and the Approved Producer/Supplier List are maintained by the Materials and Tests Unit. Section 1077 requires precast concrete units to come from a producer on the approved producer/supplier list, so a precast producers list exists within this system. The live listing application returned a server error at the time of checking.
Plant certification: Precast Concrete Producer Approval. NPCA, ACPA, or PCI third-party certification, administered by the NCDOT Materials and Tests Unit.

DhyanaERP reads NCDOT drainage summaries today.
DhyanaERP Drainage Summary Import reads a plan set, finds the drainage structure sheets, transcribes them under a strict extraction contract, checks the engineering, and turns each row a person confirms into a priced structure. This status describes DhyanaERP's reading capability only. It is not a statement of DOT approval.
See DhyanaERP Precast EditionA precast producer holds third-party plant certification from NPCA, ACPA, or PCI and passes an NCDOT plant inspection with the Department's checklist addendum. Proof of certification goes to the Materials and Tests Unit, and the plant must be on the approved producer/supplier list before fabrication begins, with certification kept current throughout the work.
Minor drainage structures, including precast drainage structures, catch basins, drop inlets, junction boxes, and manholes, are in Section 840 of the 2024 Standard Specifications, with details in the 840 series of the Roadway Standard Drawings. Reinforced concrete pipe is in Section 310 (Pipe Culverts), which lists RCP in Classes II through V. Materials and production of precast units are governed by Section 1077.
Bid quantities come from the project plan set and proposal posted in NCDOT Central Letting. The drainage summary sheets in the plan set tabulate each structure and pipe run with location, type, size, and quantity. The Standard Specifications and Standard Drawings define how each item is built, but the plan set and proposal control what is bid.
Section 1077 points precast reinforced concrete circular manhole sections to AASHTO M 199. Precast units must come from an approved producer/supplier and be produced in accordance with the furnished Roadway Standard Drawings or approved contractor drawings.
